Galaxy League Rules for Parents and Coaches

Philosophy

The galaxy league is to allow ALL participants the chance to learn the important aspects of baseball; catching, throwing, hitting, and running; in a fun and organized fashion.

Overall Rules

  1. We DO NOT KEEP SCORE, no winners, no losers.
  2. We DO NOT KEEP SCORE, no winners, no losers.
  3. The machine should be 35 to 45 feet from home plate, and at a 3 or 4 speed rating.
  4. The opposing teams coach may or may not work the machine upon agreement by both coaches.
  5. We DO NOT KEEP SCORE, no winners, no losers.
  6. Base-running should be in an ethical fashion, balls on the dirt, single: in the outfield, double. (See #1, 2, 5, and philosophy.)
Batting Rules
  1. All kids hit one time each inning. The order may be started anywhere and then followed consecutively to help with speeding up the game, and getting kids ready.
  2. A team completes an at bat when the final kid in the order has had a turn.
  3. Once the team has completed an at bat, they then switch from offense to defense.
  4. A hitter gets six (6) good pitches to try to hit, all are live (no warm up hits).
  5. The player may choose not to swing it if they desire, but if it is a good pitch, it counts as one of the six.
  6. Either the first fair ball, putout, or if the 6th good pitch is not hit, it concludes an at bat.
  7. If the 6th ball or after is foul, the batter gets another good pitch.
  8. A ball hit off the machine, pail, or coach is a dead ball, and a single. All runners advance one base.
  9. Non-batters are on the bench for safety, and no swinging bats other than hitter and on deck.
Fielding Rules
  1. All athletes play the field.
  2. A normal infield set is used, with the only exception being; one extra infielder within the area of about 5 feet of 2nd base.
  3. All other players must be in the outfield, at outfield depth, no closer than the edge of the grass.
  4. No fence line defenses, the defensive positioning must resemble a normal placement of players.
  5. All athletes switch positions each inning, never in the same spot two innings in a row. They should alternate from infield to outfield every other inning. (See philosophy and #1, 2, 5.)
  6. Every kid should play every position at some time every couple of weeks.

Get a lot of parents to help, keep them organized, safe, and moving.
